Fight Fear with Knowledge
March 19, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm| free
In the United States, the events of 2001 and the years since have fostered a growing suspicion and antipathy toward Islam, and a readiness to accept stereotypes about Muslims in general. Any instance of violence connected to Islam readily feeds fears and misunderstandings. In light of rising extremism and acts of violence in the Middle East, Europe and the United States, there is a great and urgent need for an in-depth understanding and discussion. Dr. Carlson explains how groups like the so-called Islamic State and its accomplices are distorting the teachings of Islam to achieve their goals. Faith Presbyterian Church and Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Indiana join to communicate the true Islamic teachings and fight fear with knowledge. Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, founded in 1889, is a dynamic, reformist and fast-growing international movement within Islam; established in 1920, is among the oldest American-Muslim organizations. Faith Presbyterian, a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), focuses on concerns of homelessness, hunger and education and engagement with its neighbors.
