Harrison College – Self Defense Classes
July 7, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm| Free
Harrison College, a nationally accredited, career-focused higher education institution serving more than 3,000 students, is promoting personal safety by offering free self-defense courses at all of its campuses in Indiana, Ohio and North Carolina this summer. According to a U.S. Department of Justice study, certain violent crimes like sexual assault and domestic abuse generally occur more during the summer months. The self-defense classes being offered at Harrison are designed to teach techniques and strategies to help people defend themselves in case of an emergency. Each campus is partnering with a local law enforcement agency to provide the training at no cost to participants. “The safety of our students, their families and the community is just as important as the education they receive at Harrison,” said James D. Hutton, president and CEO of Harrison College. “We believe this training will provide the confidence our community members need to feel more empowered and poised to do what is necessary to stay safe, should a situation arise.” Harrison also is collecting cell phones to be donated to a local domestic violence shelter, to assist individuals in need. Used cell phones can be dropped off at any campus now through August 31. Donors are asked to perform a complete reset on any device being donated in order to erase stored information. For a list of course dates, times and locations visit Harrison.edu/SelfDefense. New sessions continue to be added.
