Maggie Bags Open House
May 24, 2018 @ 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm| Free
Maggie Bags Are Here! It’s here! The long-awaited first Maggie Bag ever sold takes place during a special Open House held Thursday 24 from 3 until 7 p.m. at the LYNAY Center in Martinsville, Indiana. Volunteers and Magdalene House residents have been busy making the line of women’s cross-body and shoulder “hobo-style” bags. The production of these fashionable light weight canvas and decorator fabric bags is a sustainability initiative of Stability First. Plans call for the sale of 200 bags before July. Sold at $29.99 each, the sales will net $4,500 for the organization’s ministries, including the Magdalene House women’s homeless shelter. Magdalene House provides a safe, caring and stable home for women who are exiting the system and have been alcohol and/or drug abusers. At Magdalene House women can finish their education, find employment and housing. To celebrate the initial sales offering, Stability First is announcing an Open House at the Maggie Bag production site, 210 West Morgan Street in Martinsville. The public is invited to come and watch the production of the bags, tour Magdalene House, and shop for their Maggie Bag. Susan Hobson, creator of the Maggie Bag, is excited about the open house. She said, “It will be great for the community to see the actual production of these beautiful bags and to see the training that is helping the residents of Magdalene House develop work skills.” Starting in June, Maggie Bags will also be offered at a number of retail outlets and on-line through the Stability First website, www.Stability-first.com. Production plans for the last half of the year call for 800 bags to be made, generating an additional $18,000. Susan said, “We have had wonderful community volunteers. This is one of those truly magnificent Martinsville people-helping-people stories! ###
